“American Tune” is a deep, intricate pan-American composition for string quartet. While never pandering or simplistic, its powerful narrative is nevertheless tuneful and relatable—an ideal work for high-level ensembles at this moment in our history.
For World-Class String Quartets
I composed American Tune (originally String Quartet #3) in 1993-94. The performance here comes from a live recording in 1999. The ensemble, the Revolution Ensemble String Quartet, was a subset of my larger group, the Revolution Ensemble.
